Our favourite tech-giant LG has just confirmed the official launch of its next flagship. The company has announced that LG V20 will be landing on September 6 in San Francisco and will be taking on the likes of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The LG V20 is rumoured to have a lot on offer, but the thing that excites us the most is the introduction of Android 7 Nougat. The handset is touted to run the latest iteration of Android even before its officially showcased b Google in HTC powered Nexus phones.
While the official launch is still away, our readers are eager to know what exactly will ship inside the LG V20. LG might launch the phone on September 6, but the device may not touch the stores until Google brings its Nougat touting Nexus 2016 into the market.
So, piling up all the rumours and leaks, here’s what we expect to see on the upcoming LG V20.
Design and Build Quality
As per the latest rumours, LG V20 is expected to sport a design similar to the original LG V10. The device will incorporate a sturdy form-factor with steel sides and a silicone skin, and may also include support for additional modules. It will be rugged and divisive like its previous version, but will look premium for sure.
As for the mods, there is no official word on look and feel, but considering LG’s heavy investment in this technology, we can expect modular support on V20 as well as a wider selection on offer.
Display and Viewing Experience
LG V20 is said to sport a 5.7-incher Quad-HD display. The device will bring the same viewing experience of the V10 with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, more than 515 pixels per inch, and impeccable viewing angles on the main display. There will not be a major bump-up but the screen of V20 will be an excellent choice for gamers and movie buffs. A more recent leak has also suggests that the iconic secondary display from the V10 will also be included in the latest release. The 160 x 1040 quick-access always-on-display provided quick access to date, time, and favourite apps and is one of the key features that are expected to make into the final model.
Considering the recent releases, we expect to see Qualcomm’s flagship processor Snapdragon 820 with LG V20. The quad-core processor handles hefty usage with perfection and is rumoured to pair with Adreno 530 graphics and 3/4GB RAM. Though the debate is for memory, we all know V20 will deliver unparalleled performance just like LG G5 and V10. Both beauties have made into the market with strong specs and we expect the same here as well, but with a snappier and beefy processor.
And for seamless work and play, LG will probably introduce 32GB and 64GB variants, together with expansion up to 256GB via microSD card slot. The company will live up to user-expectations and will not ditch microSD card support for any cause.
Software and OS
This is the best part. You’ll get the latest iteration of Android on LG V20 even before its official release. Isn’t this exciting? LG will give you a taste of Android 7 Nougat even before Google launches the software officially with its next Nexus smartphones. Android 7 will ship with a slew of changes this year. There will be no app-drawer, improved power-saving features, and some fancy extra features that are still a mystery as of now. We never had any doubts, but the first phone to land with Android 7.0 Nougat has to be a masterpiece for sure.
According to recent leaks, LG V20 will have a 20 or a 21-megapixel shooter on the back and a dual-front-facing snapper with 8-megapixels. The improved camera setup of this handset will make a major upgrade over the previous 16 and 5MP setup. It will pair up with optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, and a bunch of mind-boggling features that enhance image quality even in dull conditions.
The camera of LG V10 was one of its defining features and we expect the same from V20. It will deliver well-lit images in low-light and will certainly outperform the likes of players like Galaxy S7 and Note 7. For selfie-fanatics, the dual-cameras will use both lenses together for wide-angled shots, or just one lens for a standard shot with perfect angles.
Even battery life will improve on the LG V20. The device could get big bump up with a 4000 mAh battery. It will pack sufficient juice to handle hefty usage and will probably give you 320 hours of standby time. The handset charges via USB Type-C reversible connector and also includes support for fast charging.
Pricing and availability
LG V10 at US$700 was a big disappointment for all of us. The company held back its launch in the UK and Australian regions and left many fans heartbroken. Even it did not show up in the Indian market.
However, taking note from the last mistake, LG V20’s price is said to be tad lower this year. Though the phone will not be completely cheap, it will include a strong set of specs at a price that is par with other players in the game. There’s still no official word, but don’t expect LG V20 at a price lesser than US$600 or AU$900.
LG V20 will be the trump card in the high-end smartphone market. The handset will take on the likes of leading flagships and will dominate with its defining features that includes Android 7 Nougat, dual-displays, and an improved camera setup.
We all are waiting for the first Android 7 smartphone of the year and these rumours and speculations suggest that it will be an exemplary successor for a device as impressive as LG V10.
